Well, at last I have started constructing the e-tutorial for my assignment. Tomorrow the physio's I work with and I will be shooting the video that will be uploaded onto Youtube and linked to the tutorial - quite exciting!
I must share this with you. Brenda told me about a similar video on Youtube and as I did not want to reinvent the wheel, I had a look at it. What a great learning opportunity for me (actually it confirmed what we all know) - the information out there is not always accurate/correct. The first principle when measuring someone for a wheelchair is to seat them on a firm/solid surface (not in a wheelchair) in order to take accurate measurements - and low behold, the video illustrates someone taking (what can at best be described as approximate measurements) of a client seated in a wheelchair with a soft seat and backrest. On the one hand we should be careful when advising our students to look for information on the web without discussing it with them and guiding them in the direction of reputable/accurate sources or sources that confirm the principles we teach. But, on the other hand maybe this also affords us the opportunity to use a source, like the video previously mentioned, to facilitate a learning opportunity.
